Online Home Business

I wasn’t really looking for anything when my Online Home Business fell in my lap.  People ask me how I found it and I tell them, and I’m serious about it, that I didn’t find it.  It found me.  So, this is my story and a bit of my background to tell you what has and is continuing to happen with me and what I do.  It really is incredible what an Online Home Business can do for you when you find one that works that you love.

Some of you know the story of How I found P90X.  In a nutshell, I was sitting on the couch, watching TV one Saturday morning and saw the infomercial.  I didn’t order it because I was VERY skeptical.  The next Saturday, I saw it again with my wife and she said, “You won’t do it”.  I pulled out my debit card and ordered it right then, along with the pullup bar, meal replacement shake, activit vitamins, protein bars, etc.  I decided I was going to be all in.  I knew it was for real because when I got involved, I weighed nearly 300 lbs at 6’3″ and I knew, although I wasn’t sloppy fat or morbidly obese, that I was very much overweight.  I had been comparing myself to others for years and one day I realized I had to do something.  That was when P90X came into my life and it was literally dropped in my lap by God.  I firmly believe that.  But, I had to work at it and over the course of about 5 to 6 months, I dropped 80 lbs and was in better shape than when I graduated from The Citadel, The Military College of South Carolina.

Online Home Business – How I started

My wife and I had been involved in several “business opportunities”.  We had been involved in a different Network Marketing Company in the early 90’s, before the internet was available to the public and we ended up spending more money than we made.  We learned a lot but we lost a lot of money.  I swore I’d never do another MLM EVER!!  I was done with that business model.  We got involved with anchor posts for mobile homes and movable structures, vending machines, investment properties (rentals and rent-to-own) and a few other various things here and there but nothing ever panned out.  I wasn’t “displeased” with my Engineering income, but I knew instinctively what most wealthy people will tell you.  In order to live a good lifestyle that is more stress free and not to worry about money, you have to diversify.  But, not only do you need to diversify, you need multiple streams of residual income.  I knew that, but, because of life situations and where I was and working on my career, I couldn’t do what I wanted to do to build that kind of business and make it happen with the support structure I had.  So, I had virtually given up and decided that I was just going to be an Engineer for the rest of my life, and that was fine.  Again, MLMs were NOT in the picture for me.  They were icky and I had no intention of ever doing that again.  Well, here is the rest of the story.  This is the video I made at the Coach Summit a few years ago and it explains my journey.  But basically, I wanted to help people with the Beachbody Products, again, because I had already been successful, and I wanted to share that with others.  I wasn’t really looking for an Online Home Business, but again, it fell in my lap.  Here is my story, in video form followed by an article from one of the founders of Beachbody, Carl Daikeler.

Online Home Business – Where We Go From Here

I am totally stoked about where we go from here with our Online Home Business.  I sincerely got involved to save 25% on the products I was already purchasing, and then to make $250 a month.  I was a coach for a travel baseball team and when people can’t pay their own way, the coaches and parents of other kids have to step up.  That meant, I had expenses I wasn’t counting on and $250 would help me offset that.  So, I did what I knew I was going to do anyway and I shared the Beachbody programs with whoever would listen and as they got results, or if they were interested, I shared the Beachbody Coaching Opportunity with them also.  The first week I made $12.75.  The second week I made about $20.  The third week I made $12.00.  My fourth week I broke $100 and I knew it was for real.  That was the week our fourth child was born and I had been laid off from my Engineering job a couple of months before I signed up as a Coach and I was unemployed at the time.  Over time, the income kept going up and although I had another Engineering job and was working 10+ hours some days, I continued to talk to people about Beachbody.  Eventually, my Beachbody income surpassed my Engineering income and when I got laid off in the summer of 2011, again, due to the economy, I was in a position to make Beachbody Coaching my full time income because I had built this Online Home Business.  Beachbody provides all of the tools and a lot of support and we also get support from other coaches in our group and I can’t say anything other than it’s phenomenal.  I had gone from swearing I’d never do another MLM to shuddering to think that Beachbody Coaching would not be a part of my life.

So, I’ll leave you with a few things as a takeaway from this blog.  If you are still reading, trust me and do this.  Don’t depend on a job or the economy.  Build this business!!  Don’t be a dead fish floating down the river hoping and wishing for things to be better.  Take charge of your life.  I personally think this is it because of the products we have, the founders of the company and where we are headed, but do something.  Don’t wait for life to happen to you.  Set your sails, chart your course and go where you want to go.  Contact me for more details.  I’d love to share more of my story with you.

Get a Mentor

Get a Mentor

Get a Mentor

Get a Mentor

I know when I say Get a Mentor, many people have different reactions to what that would look like.  It sounds so simple to say Get a Mentor, but why do so few people do it?  As we go through life we all have life experiences that we can share with people.  Most people want to share those experiences with others, but there is not only a shortage of people who make good mentors, there really is a shortage of people out there who have the ability and natural inclination to listen to others, seek advice and learn from other people’s mistakes.  A favorite quote of mine is by Zig Ziglar who said “Some of us learn from other people’s mistakes and some of us have to be other people.”  I love that quote.  It is true that experience is learning from your mistakes but wisdom is learning from the mistakes of others.  So, why do we have a problem with sitting down and listening to other people?  Why do we think we have to be the person who knows it all?  As we go through life, the situations we encounter will be unique to each of us, depending on what we’re doing and where we are in life, but that doesn’t mean that what someone else has done doesn’t matter and that we can’t learn from it.  If you are going to be a Broker in a Real Estate Firm, you have to be a Real Estate Agent for 3 years first.  You can’t just go take the Broker’s Exam.  If you are going to be a Professional Engineer, you have to not only get your Engineering Degree and pass the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam, but you have to work under the direct supervision of a Professional Engineer for 5 years and then have recommendations from other Engineers who have observed your work and character before you will even be approved to take the Professional Engineering Exam.  The same goes for Electricians, Plumbers and even Cosmetologists.  So, why is it that most people go through life without seeking the wise counsel of others.  Most people have never even considered that they need to get a mentor.  And when they do decide to get a mentor, they usually don’t get someone that will help them.  So, how does all this come together?

Get a Mentor – Picking the Right One

Well, first of all, you need to pick a mentor that will not just tell you what they think you want to hear.  There are a lot of people out there who are “pleasers” and when you talk to them, they will not tell you the truth or if they do, they will be mealy-mouthed about it.  They beat around it to keep from hurting people’s feelings.  Also, you need to make sure the mentor you choose has the same value system you have.  Of course a big thing is to get a mentor that has done or is doing something you want to do.  I also recommend that you look at their personal life.  For instance, if you are going to open a restaurant, and you are going to get a mentor, don’t pick someone who has a personal life in shambles, unless that is the way you want your life and marriage to end up.  The Bible says Bad Company corrupts Good Character.  If you value your marriage and you want your personal life to mesh with the career or personal development you are getting counsel on from a mentor, make SURE you know what their personal life is like, to the best of your ability because when you start taking counsel from people and getting advice, they can only teach you to do what they’ve done.  You also want to be sure they have done what they are telling you.  There is an old saying, “A man with a theory is NEVER at the mercy of a man with experience.”

Get a Mentor – Be Vulnerable and Teachable

When you do find a mentor and you are meeting with them, hopefully face to face, regularly, be it once a week, once a month or once a quarter, make sure you are vulnerable and open to their teaching.  When I think of a Mentor, of course I think of my Engineering background, but I also think of Martial Arts.  In Martial Arts, you can never advance beyond your sensei.  In other words, if you are being trained by a 5th degree blackbelt, you can only progress to 4th degree unless your instructor advances to 6th degree.  Otherwise, the student would have to seek out a new sensei in order to advance in rank if that is the goal.  Going back to the restaurant example, if your goal is to have 3 restaurants, seek out someone who has at LEAST 4 restaurants or more.  Don’t get advice from someone who only has 1 restaurant because they will likely help you put systems in place that will not be good for multiple locations.  Always seek out those who are doing or have done at least what you wish to accomplish if not more.  In time, you may be able to improve and put your own spin on what they are doing but in the meantime, be teachable to what they tell you to do or not to do.  The trick, as I’ve said before, is to find something you want to do and find someone who is doing it, duplicate what they do and outwork them.  Have Persistence!!  This will get you started but then you can improve on it as your time and personality permits.  Just be prepared when you meet with your mentor, take their advice and always remain teachable.  Mentors are valuable so my advice is to get a mentor, just be careful who you choose and make sure your values align with theirs.  That way, you can truly leave a legacy!

Don’t Settle

Don’t Settle

Don't Settle

Don’t Settle

If you search the words Don’t Settle, a lot of things come up.  There are a lot of quotes and a lot of pictures for Don’t Settle.  I figure that is because so many people do.  We have big dreams when we are young and then, we let life get in the way and we figure, this is the way it’s going to be.  This is my lot in life.  This is my “Destiny”.  Well, the truth is, you don’t have to be miserable.  You don’t even have to be slightly unhappy.  You CAN live a vibrant life and do the things you want to do, but here is the truth.  If you are going to do and have some things you’ve never done and had, you are going to have to do some things differently than you’ve done in the past.  In fact, you may have to do some things other people haven’t or aren’t willing to do.  So, stay after it and don’t settle.

One of my favorite quotes is by Steve Jobs.  This is what he said:
You’ve got to find what you love. And that is as true for your work as it is for your lovers. Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle. As with all matters of the heart, you’ll know when you find it. And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better as the years roll on. So keep looking until you find it. Don’t settle.

So, why do so many of us settle?  I personally think it’s because we give up.  It’s hard to keep pressing on toward the goal we have for ourselves, especially when other people around us seem to be getting ahead and doing better than we are.  They are working for someone else and driving nice cars, living in nice houses and they have settled into the grind.  Remember this TV Commercial?  It’s for Lending Tree and while I don’t necessarily promote them, this is SO true of Americans today.  It’s worth a watch:

Don’t Settle – Why do we do it?

It’s easy for me to say Don’t Settle – but why do we do it?  It’s easy.  Remember my blog from a few days ago on having a Plan for Success?  Most people don’t plan on anything.  They just float down the river like a dead fish.  Wherever the wind blows is where they go.  They don’t have a mission in life.  They just want to make it through another day.  It is true that we need to pray that God will give us our daily bread, but we also need to look to the future also, with high anticipation and a plan.  The Bible also says those that don’t take care of their family is worse than an infidel.  Now, I’m not one to say that material wealth is all there is to life.  If you love climbing mountains, go get a job as a mountain climbing guide.  If you love accounting, get a job as an accountant.  BUT, if you love mountain climbing and hate accounting, don’t get a job as an accountant just because it will pay the bills.  And certainly don’t get that job because you think your friends will think better of you.  Why make your life miserable just to impress people you don’t even like?  It’s kind of silly when you think of it that way, isn’t it?  It’s the same thing with a spouse.  Some people settle for someone who is less than they could be with and don’t exactly match them because they have been beaten down and think no one else will ever love them so why not.  The old saying goes, don’t marry someone you can live with, marry someone you can’t live without.  So, just some friendly advice, don’t settle when it comes to marriage.  Over half of marriages end in divorce.  Don’t be a statistic with that one.  Make time for you to figure out what you want.  Write down what you want in a spouse and pray about it and don’t settle for less than God has planned for you.  Don’t Settle!!

Don’t Settle – Get out of the Comfort Zone!!

Settling is comfortable.  Being overweight is comfortable.  Working a dead end job is comfortable.  Being with someone who is OK is comfortable.  Not being confrontational is comfortable.  In this litigious society where we are so politically correct, comfort is key.  The occupy crowd wants government to pay their student loans instead of working to pay them off.  So, why do we allow ourselves and those around us to settle?  It’s very comfortable.  But when you get in the Don’t Settle mindset, the world will open up for you and you will start to see opportunities.  Take a risk.  Do something scary that won’t kill you.  Do something out of the ordinary!  You can do it!  Just spread your wings and fly and don’t settle.  Start looking for ways to get out of the comfort zone that is stifling your creativity and your imagination.  Don’t settle for a mediocre life.  Go after it and make it happen.  If it’s to be, you have to make it happen.  So, ask yourself this question….if God would perform a miracle in your life today, what would you want it to be?  What are you doing to help Him make that a reality?  Work like it depends on you and pray like it depends on God and it will all work out just fine!!  I was talking to a friend last night who told me she needed some of my “positivity” and I told her to get active and stop being sedentary.  Eat Right.   Get some sunshine.  Enjoy life!!   That would solve a lot of her problems.

Plan For Success

Plan For Success

Plan For Success

Plan For Success

I guess the question here is whether or not the word “Plan” in Plan for Success is a noun or a verb, right?  In other words, do you have a plan for success or are you planning for success?  I guess it depends on you.  Is it something tangible that you have already done or is it something you are currently planning for?  Put yet another way, if a very important person were going to come to your house, you have a plan in your head for how you would want things to be, but during the time that they were on the way, you would be planning for it and preparing.  The question with success then is, do you need to have a plan in order to achieve success or do you need to be planning in order to achieve it?  The answer is, yes.  I heard someone say a few years ago that the average man will spend more time picking out a nice tie than he will in picking his career.  I can say for me, he was right.

I had an idea I wanted to get into Engineering, but I wasn’t really sure which Engineering Discipline.  I finally decided when I saw a demonstration of liquefaction where water is introduced into soil and shaken violently, as in an earthquake, and the soil begins to act like a liquid.  I was hooked.  Yet, there are still different directions to go with Civil Engineering.  How did I decide to become a Geotechnical Engineer and get into Construction Materials Testing?  Simple.  Somebody hired me.  I had no real Plan For Success, I just wanted to get my Civil Engineering Degree and get hired by somebody.  If a transportation company had hired, me, I would be a Transportation Engineer.   If a Structural Engineering Company had hired me, I would be a Structural Engineer.  You get the idea, right?  I figured, I would go to work for someone and then, if I didn’t like it, I could always change and go do something else.  Well, how is THAT for a Plan for Success?  If I had seen a really cool demonstration of electricity during that time, who knows, I may have gone into Electrical Engineering.  You get the idea.  I really had no Plan for Success and all I wanted to do was get a degree, get a job, make money and see where it went.  That is not a Plan For Success, that is a Plan For Failure and for making someone else rich!

Plan For Success – It’s not something that just happens

Having said that Success is not something that just happens, there are people who seem to go through life and they have no plan and they are just in the right place at the right time.  You likely know some of them, right?  We all do.  BUT, those people are few and far between.  Typically, success only comes to those who plan for it.  Now, there is a big difference between being content with what happens to you and really having a plan for success and going for it.  If you are willing to be a dead fish and just float along with the river, then, there is not much need for having a true plan for success.  BUT, if you want to achieve great things, they aren’t just going to happen to you.  You need to have a plan to get them done and then find a mentor.  I heard someone say that the easiest way to become successful is to find someone who has done, or is doing, what you really want to do.  Convince them to mentor you and then outwork them.  There is a lot of truth to that, but I would also suggest that you need to work smart.  You can move a ton of dirt with a wheelbarrow and a shovel.  You can do it faster by working harder, but, why not get a backhoe and a dump truck and make one trip?  You get the idea.

Plan For Success – What We Do

Regardless of what you do, you need to be intentional about it.  As a Disciples of Jesus Christ, we have been commanded to go into all of the world and make disciples, baptizing them and teaching them the things that have been taught to us.  It is intentional.  We have to go find people and be fishers of men.  We don’t hope the fish jump in the boat.  Similarly, it’s the same with our Beachbody Coaching business.  We have been given a great opportunity because I ordered P90X and lost 80 lbs during my first couple of rounds of doing it.  But, just because we signed up as Coaches does not automatically give us a Plan For Success.  As Coaches, we have to workout.  We have to be products of the product.  We also have to share and talk to people about the products that we know need to lose weight and get in shape as well as the business opportunity.

We have to have a Plan For Success and not just hope and wish that those things that we want to happen, will, just because we wish for them to.  There has to be a Plan For Success and then, here it comes, the “w” word…you have to WORK.  In fact, I heard someone say, work like it depends on you and pray like it depends on God.   So, my advice is, have a plan, get a mentor, duplicate others successes and do it smarter, never give up, work hard and pray.  If you do those things, you will be well on your way.

As a parting note, sometimes it’s hard and you will actually have to swim against the current.  But when you get there, it will be worth it because you’ve had a Plan For Success!!

Vitamins and Supplements

Vitamins and Supplements

Vitamins and Supplements

Vitamins and Supplements

Disclaimer:  I am not a Medical Doctor, Nutritionalist, Certified Trainer and I have no initials after my name dealing with the body, health care, or any of that.  I’m just a guy muddling through taking care of his body and getting in shape and doing the best I can to stay there.  So, what I say here is my own opinion and what I’ve personally experienced.  My suggestion with all of this is to do your own research and do what is right for you.  I’ve found what works for me and you can go with that but my wife and I are constantly reading and researching and adding things to our diet that will be good for us.  So, this Vitamin and Supplements blog is just that.

I have admittedly never been a big vitamins and supplements taker.  I remember my Mom buying some Flintstone vitamins when I was very young and she got them for me only because I begged for them because they looked like candy and they had really cool commercials.  After a few of them, I realized they weren’t what I thought they were.  I grew up on a farm and we ate a lot of what we grew and it was chocked full of nutrients.  I even like liver and onions.  The only food I really don’t care for much is pickled beets.  ICK!!  But, I ate nearly everything else including greens like turnips and collards as well as beans and peas we grew.  Of course Mom cooked them in fatback so they tasted great, but that’s life on the farm.

I never really considered vitamins and supplements until I got out of college in the late 80’s.  The research at the time was that we needed to supplement our diets with a multivitamin at the least but specific vitamins if we needed it.  There were a few over the counter vitamins and supplements.  Have you been into one of the local stores lately?  My advice is to steer clear of them unless you know EXACTLY what you are going in there for and have a plan in mind.  If you don’t, you will walk out of there more confused than when you walk in and the guys behind the counter aren’t much help either.  Some of them are knowledgeable but most of them are just working their way through school.  There are 10 different brands of each of the Vitamins and Supplements and they all have different dosages.  So, what do you do?

Vitamins and Supplements – Beachbody’s Products

I’ve heard stories of people taking Vitamins and Supplements and the body not absorbing them.  I’ve also heard the stories **gross alert** of a guy having his septic tank pumped and finding vitamins and supplements in there and you could still read the brand on the pill.  Do not pass go, do not collect $200.  Not only did the body not absorb them, they didn’t even dissolve.  I also took some Vitamins and Supplements from another company once and when we saw something we were describing as “yellow”, we would say that was “Double X Yellow” because it would always turn our urine a neon yellow which to me, again, meant the body wasn’t absorbing it properly.

Shakeology Good For Children

Shakeology Good For Children

When I started taking Beachbody’s vitamins and supplements, I started taking the ActiVit vitamins.  They didn’t discolor my urine and I experineced no weird side effects.  I liked that.  I could also tell it was boosting my metabolism.  We also have the Slimming Formula Pack that I’ve taken and love and we’ve had several customers rave about it.  I love the stuff.

In the meantime, I found Shakeology.  Shakeology for me replaced all of that.  It is whole foods and it replaced the Multivitamin as well as the Slimming Formula.  It keeps me satisfied, boosts my metabolism because of nutrients in it and I love the taste.  We have several flavors to choose from also so you can change it up and not get bored.  Check with your Doctor and check the labels to make sure you’re not allergic to anything, but we’ve also found it’s good for Children.  It’s really an incredible product.

Vitamins and Supplements – Be Careful!

Many people know instinctively that they need to supplement their diets with Vitamins and Supplements because of the toxins in our environment and even our drinking water, as well as a decline in the nutrients in our food.  The problem is they don’t know what to choose.  If you don’t know what you’re doing, at best you can be flushing your money down the toilet, literally.  At worst, they can actually be dangerous for you and you can end up poisoning  yourself.   Some people think if a little is good, a lot has to be better and that simply isn’t the case.  When choosing Vitamins and Supplements, make sure you are getting something your body needs, can digest and use properly and has no processed or man made chemicals.  Nutrient Dense whole foods are better than supplements and again, for me, Shakeology fit that bill.  If you want to know more, Contact Me and let’s talk about it.  You can also go to www.shakeology.com/jayfloyd and watch the videos and read the ingredients and labeling on it.  If you use it for 30 days, I think you’ll agree, it’s the best stuff out there for sure.

To your health!!

Well, you know I have Bad Knees.  Now you find out I have Bad Shoulders also.  Disclaimer here up front.  I am not a medical doctor or a physical therapist or anyone who has any letters after my name connected with the body and working out.  I am simply a guy who decided to get in shape and lose weight after not working out for 15 years.  I have talked a bit about overtraining and I know what it’s like to get injured while working out and pushing through it.  So, Workouts for Bad Shoulders is possible, but you have to be careful and it depends on what type of injury you have.

Workouts for Bad Shoulders – My Injury

You’ve heard my story about how I found P90X and what I was doing.  I started doing P90X+ and started doing more than workout a day.  I also got involved with a group of crazy (dare I say much younger) guys and they challenged me to do 3,000 pushups in a month.  After thinking about it, I upped it to 5,000.  After all, 3,000 is only 100 a day, right?  So, we did that.  All of that came together in my shoulder joint to give me a form of tendonitis.  I actually self diagnosed it as Impingement coupled with Tendonitis.  I kind of figured out it wasn’t anything major with my rotator cuff or anything that may require surgery, but it sure did hurt.  In fact, about 4 years ago, it hurt so bad that I couldn’t reach across my body with my right hand to put on my seat belt.  I had to grab the seat belt with my left hand and pull it across to my waist to then click it with my right hand.  I did my best to manage but I found I couldn’t lay down on my back and put my hands under my head because of the pressure it put on the back of my shoulder down through my shoulder blade.  Sometimes it would be shooting pain, sometimes it would just be a dull ache.

Workouts for Bad Shoulders – My Solution

I knew I had to keep working out.  Having an injury was no excuse for me to put the weight back on.  During this time I lost about 80 lbs doing P90X and P90X+ along with some cardio and I was determined not to put it back on.  I hate taking any kind of pain medication and avoided it to the best of my ability.  The funny thing was, pushups hurt the worst of any other exercises.  After talking to several people in the medical profession, I had to make a decision that I couldn’t do any pushing exercises like pushups or shoulder presses, especially overhead stuff.  This was a problem because of the exercises involved with P90X and P90X+.  But, I did my best and tried to not injure myself anymore.  I just had to be extremely careful.  In the meantime, Insanity came out and I started doing that.  I also was able to do some Rev Abs workouts when it came out and there was always Turbo Jam and Slim in 6 for those days when my shoulder felt really angry.  We now have Tai Cheng also as well as Debbie Seiber’s Total Body Solution to help with limberness and stretching.  I just determined that I would never be able to do another full round of P90X but to listen to my body and do what I could because surgery was simply out of the question for me.

Workouts for Bad Shoulders – My Healing

I stretched as much as I could, but, because of the (self diagnosed) impingement, stretching hurt.  So, I could never get my shoulder to go through the full range of motion I needed it to.  I’ve told you I Love Martial Arts and I take Jujitsu.  I went to a conference one weekend and there was a gentleman leading the training that had trained under some magnificent Japanese Martial Artists.  He put someone in an Arm Bar, and then said, this is good for frozen shoulders, bursitis, arthritis, tennis elbow, carpal tunnel, etc.  It will break your shoulder if you continue but this gets the blood flowing.  Long story short, after lunch that day, I asked him and he put me on the floor and did some shoulder manipulation.  When he was done, I told him it was numb and he told me it was fixed.  I didn’t believe him.  After that day I had 95% of my range of motion back with no pain and continuing what he had done helped me get back, literally, 100% of my range of motion with no pain.  I am now pain free.  So, I’m here as living proof that stretching works.  What happens is as people age, they lose range of motion and balance because they don’t work on it.  They don’t stay active.  They don’t continue to work on the joints and as a result, they age and get stiff.  When you think of an old person, balance, mobility, agility and flexibility doesn’t come to mind.  That is because it has to be worked on intentionally and what you don’t use, you lose.  I intend to fight it 100% of the way.  I’m now doing Body Beast and doing heavy weight lifting again, with no pain and it’s INCREDIBLE!!

Again, to reiterate, I’m not a medical doctor, nutritionist, physical therapist or any other kind of health professional.  I’m simply a Beachbody Coach who has been through this and worked my way through it and finally found the solution, which is simply, stretching and joint manipulation….in the RIGHT way.  If you want to know more about my journey with my shoulder, Contact Me and I’ll tell you more about it, but you have to be careful or you risk injury and if you have a problem that is chronic or is sudden and you’re in a lot of pain, by all means see a Doctor to have it diagnosed properly.  You may have an injury that requires surgery.  This worked for me and may not work for you but it was incredible to be healed without going to a Doctor and just doing what my body naturally wanted to do.  Keep Pushing Play and just remember…if I can do it, you can do it too!!

Workouts for Kids

It’s amazing how just a few years ago, we didn’t have to ask that question.  Kids didn’t have to workout.  Kids just naturally did it.  It was called PLAY.  Now, people ask all the time about Workouts for KidsAmerica is becoming increasingly fatter and more and more unhealthy.  Schools are cutting Physical Education programs as well as Music and Arts.  Boys are forced to sit in a classroom environment where they have a hard time thriving.  They have so much bottled up energy and then they are forced to sit and behave.  It is only a matter of time before they explode with all the ways we throttle them.  I remember being in Elementary school and not being able to wait until lunch when we could go outside and play or for recess for the same reason.  Even in High School at lunch, we’d go outside and play football or volleyball.

Now we’ve become such a litigious society that schools don’t want kids to go outside and play because if they get hurt, the school could get sued and the teachers who are supposed to be supervising them could even potentially be personally liable.  We try to protect our kids so much that we’ve put them in a bubble and kept them from being kids.  Kids are supposed to fall down and skin elbows and knees and get some knocks on the head.  It’s all a part of growing up.  So, why do we protect them so much that it has begun to hurt them physically by not letting them run around and burn off that excess energy?  Even when they get home, they sit and play video games or watch TV all day and the pounds keep getting packed on.  So, when we think about Workouts for Kids, what we really need to think about is fun and play.  How are we making it fun and how are we turning it into play?  Kids know instinctively how to play.  I asked someone once what is it that nearly every small child does every day that adults rarely do?  The answer is RUN.  If you watch small children around each other, it won’t be long before you see them running and it won’t be long before you see the Parents saying…”Stop Running, You’ll hurt yourself”.  I think it’s absolutely hilarious at a public pool to watch the lifeguards try to get a 4 year old to not run around the pool.

Workouts for Kids – Make it Fun

We have a couple of really fun workouts for kids.  One is called Tony and the Kids.  The other one is Shaun T’s Fit Kids Club.  There are schools that are incorporating both of these workouts for kids in their Physical Education programs and sometimes they do the fun workotus when they have recess when they can’t go outside and play because of rain.  We have a friend who is a PE teacher in Florida and she says she gives them the option of going outside or doing these programs and the majority of the kids will opt to stay in because they are that much fun to do.  Tony’s program is designed for kids of a younger age while Shaun Ts gets into a little older crowd and has more dance moves than Tony’s.  They are both great programs and the kids love it.  But, while we don’t advocate heavy lifting until kids are a bit older, ANY of the programs we have are great for kids.  The moves can be modified and the programs like Insanity require no equipment whereas P90X is a bit more involved.  It’s funny because my kids workout now and I don’t have to prompt them at all.  They just have seen Melanie and me working out and they know it’s our lifestyle.  Our youngest son is 5 years old now and for the last couple of years, he would come into the living room and say “I want to play P90X” or “I want to play Body Beast”.  He would even tell me which one he wanted to do, like Shoulders and Arms or Cardio X or Core Synergistics.  We also laugh at him in Karate because he will do the step ups on the bench and he does them like Sagi in Body Beast.  All of the instructors love it.  He also does Just Dance on the Wii until he is nearly exhausted and he loves it because it’s FUN.  All of our kids are going to grow up loving to workout and realizing the benefits of a healthy lifestyle because we’ve modeled it for them.

Workouts for Kids – Activities

Again, if you are deciding on workouts for kids, you want to be smart.  Our kids have grown up being involved in activities like ballet, baseball, karate and things like that.  Obviously, some activities will be better for them and make them move and burn more calories than others, but, if they are having fun, they will naturally want to do it.  If you make it seem like something they HAVE to do, then you may find they will have some push back.  The most natural thing to do is to model it.  If you are overweight and haven’t worked out in years, and are sitting on the couch eating bon bons, it’s going to be tough for you to tell your kids they need to workout and you can forget them if you get them a workout to do.  But, if you do something WITH them and model it, you are going to have an easier time getting them moving.  Drink Shakeology, Workout, show them what to do and you’ll develop in them a love for working out, eating healthy and it will save them and you money down the road on medical bills.  It’s just a fact.  So, workouts for kids should be fun, not drudgery.  Just do it WITH them.  You’ll be glad you did.

Shakeology Good For Children

Shakeology Good For Children

Shakeology Good For Children

Shakeology Good For Children

We have had this question come up a lot lately for some reason.  It may be because we’ve started our Shake and Shed program where you can give Shakeology a test drive for 10 days for $50 to see how it works for you.  It’s funny that people ask this question because it really is great stuff.  But first, let’s talk about why Children would need to supplement their diets.

According to emedicine, as of December, 2012, approximately 21-24% of American children and adolescents are overweight, and another 16-18% is obese.  These rates have been steadily climbing although there have been indications that among certain ethnic groups in certain locations in the U.S., there has been a slight decline.  With the availability of relatively cheap, fast food coupled with our fast lifestyle this trend isn’t likely to reverse itself any time soon.  If people eat breakfast at all, it’s something processed or sugary.  Lunch in our schools isn’t the best in the world as documented by Jaime Oliver and reported by WebMD.  It used to be that overweight and obese children in schools were the anomaly and usually meant that the child didn’t have to work and their parents were relatively rich.  Now this was years and years ago.  As we’ve begun to get further and further away from farm living and working outdoors, the rates of obesity have gone up proportionally.  Kids don’t go outside to play anymore.  They sit inside and watch TV, do their homework and play on gaming consoles for most of the day.  The average child watches about 4 hours of TV a day, on school days.  Also, the nutrients in food aren’t what they used to be.  The body knows what it needs and wants.  If a child eats and doesn’t get the right proportion of nutrients, even though there may be plenty of food, it will send signals that it needs more until it gets the fuel it needs.  Parents have not taken responsibility for their children and in a lot of cases, children follow their parents example.  Their parents aren’t active and don’t workout so why should they?  It’s truly a matter of “like father like son” as we’ve heard so many times.  It’s time to break that cycle.

Shakeology Good For Children – In the Words of Isabelle Daikeler

Isabelle Daikeler is the wife of CEO Carl Daikeler.  She did a workshop a couple of years ago with Darin Olien, the other formula expert of Shakeology.  They both have so many letters after their names that I can’t begin to list them all.  You can google her and see videos and all that though.   Suffice it to say she’s an expert.  She told Carl she wanted to do a product for Beachbody called Shakeology but she wasn’t going to cut corners and it wouldn’t be cheap processed crap.  Carl told her and Darin to go for it and they did and what they have come up with is absolutely amazing.  So, Shakeology is the answer.  Cutting to the chase, someone in the audience asked this question.  “Is Shakeology Safe and Good for Children?”  I’ll never forget it.  Isabelle stood up and put her hands on her hips as if offended, she was being a bit dramatic although it was very lighthearted, and she said “Why is it that people ask that question, but they never ask if it’s ‘safe and good’ for their children to go through the local fast food drive-thru?”  We all had a good laugh but it illustrated her point perfectly.  Why do we not care about putting crap in our children’s bodies most of the time?  We buy them snack cakes and hot pockets and oreo cookies and chips and sodas but give them something healthy and all of a sudden, there is a push back from people.  It’s absolutely amazing when you think about it in those terms isn’t it?

Shakeology Good For Children – and Amazing for Adults!!

I’ve probably talked about Shakeology enough on here for awhile but I just needed to reiterate this because of all the questions we’ve had.  Obesity is a health crisis in our nation.  We are killing ourselves, literally, with something that is needed for our survival.  Obesity costs employers and health care institutions a TON of money every year.  Shakeology has a 30 day money back guarantee and the Chocolate, if mixed properly with ice and almond milk, tastes like a Dairy Queen Blizzard!  Can you imagine your child getting the best nutrition you could put in their bodies every day before they head off to school?  What about you getting the best nutrition in your body you can get before you head off to work?  You need to eat breakfast.  You might as well make it something good and with the 25% discount that is available, it is much cheaper than the typical fast food biscuit and coffee.  It’s certainly MUCH cheaper than a coffee from your local coffee joint.  My advice is just do it.  Shakeology is Good for Children, and AMAZING for adults.  We are doing Shake and Shed 10 day trials right now.  Contact me about getting yours and see how you and your children feel.  I’m betting you feel great and never want to go back to feeling sluggish and lacking energy again.  If you click on the picture above and decide to order it, let me know so I can add you to our list of people to stay in contact with and also, make sure you get on HD (Home Direct) so you get free shipping!!  Let me know if you have questions.  Just do it!!  Check out this video.  You’ll love it.

Workouts For Bad Knees

Workouts For Bad Knees

Workouts for Bad Knees

Workouts for Bad Knees

A lot of people have bad knees.  There is an old saying that goes “be kind to your knees, you’ll miss them when they’re gone.” Oh how true that is. Workouts for Bad Knees can be hard to find when you decide to start working out again.  But, you can use that as a reason to get in shape or an excuse to sit around getting fatter.  I haven’t been horrible to my knees but I haven’t been kind to them either.  I played football in High School and played Volleyball in College.  I also spent a good bit of time in my late teens and early 20’s being stupid on snow skis.  We would go up to the mountains on the weekends and ski all night Friday night, all day Saturday, into the morning Sunday morning and then Sunday until early afternoon, drive home and go to work.  And when I say we skied, we went from the time they opened until they closed with very few breaks and we were jumping bumps and going wide open all day.  I could literally feel my knees at the end of the weekend.  Volleyball wasn’t good on my knees either.  I actually ended up going to the infirmary once because my knees were swollen and hurting after a Volleyball tournament.  They diagnosed it as “jumpers knee” and the inflammation caused me to not be able to bend down well and of course the jumping hurt.  I found out in Volleyball, knee injuries are more prevalent than in basketball because of all of the jumping.  You jump just about every play, especially when you are in the front court up by the net to either hit or block.  So, as I went through life, my knees didn’t get much better.  I didn’t know what to do to get in shape because I’ve told you, I didn’t want to go to the gym, and I tried to run, but I didn’t like it and frankly, I knew it wouldn’t feel good to my knees to train hard by running.  So, I had to find Workouts for Bad Knees.

Workouts for Bad Knees – P90X, Turbo Jam, Hip Hop Abs, etc.

OK, disclaimer time.  If you have something REALLY bad wrong with your knees, you need to see a Doctor.  I am not a physician but I do have bad knees.  I have never been to a Doctor but I have a lot of creaking and scraping and sometimes even a bit of sharp pain in my knees.  I know it’s from the way I treated them when I was younger and I don’t want to go to a Doctor so, I just work through it.  So, I had to find Workouts for Bad Knees.  Believe it or not, P90X is not a bad program if you are looking for Workouts for Bad Knees.  Everything is modifiable and again a disclaimer here.  You have to be SMART.  When I say bad knees, I’m not talking about ripped or torn cartilage if you are doing P90X and try to do all of the routines.  But, there are some of the routines like Chest and Back, Back and Biceps, Shoulders and Arms, Chest Shoulders and Triceps, X Stretch and even Yoga that you should be able to work through with no problem.  Routines like Plyometrics and Legs and Back may be a different issue but again, if you modify them you should be able to get through them with no problem until you can figure out if you can make it work.  Turbo Jam and Hip Hop Abs are other programs that you should be able to get through with minimal modifications.  I wouldn’t recommend jumping on Slim in 6 though because it is loaded with lunges and squats.  They don’t call Debbie the Squat Nazi for no reason.  But again, even if you are doing Slim in 6 and you can only do a half squat, that is still better than doing nothing and sitting on the couch feeling sorry for yourself.

Workouts for Bad Knees – Tai Cheng

I truly think if you are looking for Workouts for Bad Knees, you have to check out Tai Cheng.  I did a Tai Cheng Review not long ago you can check out.  Sometimes, knee problems can be made worse by bad posture or by favoring them too much.  Tai Cheng works on balance, mobility, coordination, agility and all of that.  It is non-impact and very much non stressful on the knees.  After doing a round of Tai Cheng, you should feel everything in your lower body improve and get better.  I did Tai Cheng while doing The Ultimate Reset.  That is a 21 day eating program where you cleanse and rejuvenate the body from the inside out.  Tai Cheng is so easy on the body that they actually recommend doing it while doing The Ultimate Reset.  There is no doubt that if you can stand up, you can do Tai Cheng and you may actually find that your range of motion and agility increase while the pain in your knees decrease.  If you couple this program with The Ultimate Reset and Shakeology, you have a winning formula for Workouts for Bad Knees!!  Don’t let Bad Knees keep you on the sideline.  If you don’t do something to strengthen them, they will only get worse with time, not better.  Personally, I don’t want to have a knee replacement when  I get older, so, I protect my knees now and I work on the muscles surrounding them to keep stability and range of motion and I do it intentionally.  Come on and join us and let’s stay young and feel young.  Age doesn’t mean you have to get old.  Fight it!!!
