Two Workouts A Day

Two Workouts A Day

Two Workouts A Day

Two Workouts A Day

I have gotten a little flak from people who have read some of my blog posts, but remember,  I am not writing this for fitness professionals or people who have been working out for years.  My blog posts are being written first of all as an encouragement to ME.  I also want to encourage others who haven’t worked out in years, if ever, to let them know about my journey and some of our products so that they can have some of the same results I’ve had.  So, when I talk about doing Two Workouts A Day, you have to keep that in mind.  If you’ve been working out for years, you’ve already figured out what your body can tolerate and you’ve learned to listen to it.  That is the hardest thing to do actually, for the novice, who hasn’t worked out in years if ever, is to learn to listen to your body.  What happens typically either goes one of two ways for the new person working out.  The new person will either start working out and get very sore and then either quit permanently or at least for awhile until the soreness goes away, which is a mistake.  OR, they go the opposite direction and start getting results and then they want them faster so they cut their calories even more and start working out two and sometimes three times a day.  That is when fatigue sets in and results slow down or at worst, injuries can happen.  My recommendation of course when considering Two Workouts A Day is to always listen to your body but to not do Two Workouts A Day if you are just starting on your fitness journey.

Two Workouts A Day – Don’t Risk Injury

It ain’t worth it to risk injury doing Two Workouts A Day.  In fact, I would not suggest it if you just started working out.  When I started P90X, I started getting results and my Beachbody Coach gave me some great advice.  Get through the first 90 days and then reevaluate where you are, how you feel, what your goals are and then consider it.  In fact, P90X has a doubles schedule built in, but it doesn’t even start until after the first month.  So, you do 3 weeks of the Phase I workout, have a Recovery Week, and then, doubles starts with a mix of Cardio, Kenpo, Plyometrics and Core Synergistics.  Even then, it’s only 3 days a week.  It’s a smart way to do it because you have a hard workout in the the morning and a relatively lighter workout in the evenings.

Another factor in whether you should do Two Workouts a Day how hard your first workout is.  If you are doing heavy lifting or extreme cardio with jumping, you may want to consider not doing a second workout, or if you do, make it something like like light jogging or Stretching/Yoga.  That way, you aren’t ripping your muscles up without giving them a chance to recover.  Also, you NEVER want to work major muscle groups to fatigue on consecutive days, much less on the same day.  If you do that, you can expect to pull up lame and you only have yourself to blame.  You’ve been warned.

The main thing in doing Two Workouts A Day is, don’t try to be a hero and do 3 weeks of workouts in a week.  Your body won’t respond and you’ll get injured or sick because your body will start to shut down.  Sleep and Rest is just as important to fitness as busting your tail working out.

Two Workouts A Day – Go For It!!

Having said all that about being careful with doing Two Workouts A Day, if you’ve been working out for some time and are relatively comfortable with your workouts and you’re listening to your body and you have the time, Go For It!!  You can get some major calorie burns doing Two Workouts A Day if you are careful and your body will respond as long as you aren’t working major muscle groups twice a day or on consecutive days, you’re eating right, getting plenty of rest and being SMART.  The main thing is to listen to your body.  I’ve talked some about overtraining.  Although some people say you can’t overtrain, I’m a firm believer that you can.  One of the main things to look for is fatigue and loss of energy during the day.  That is your body telling you to back off.  The other thing is if your resting heartrate first thing in the morning is elevated consistently you may want to back off.  Of course if you feel muscle, tendon, ligament strain you don’t want to push through any of that.  I had that in my shoulder and thought I’d just work through it.  It took me nearly 2 years to get over that minor injury but I did it without surgery, Thank God.  Again, you can do Two Workouts A Day, you just need to be careful doing it, listen to your body, eat right (for me that includes Shakeology) and get plenty of rest.  If you are doing Two Workouts A Day, you may need more sleep than usual as well as more water, so, plan on it and Go For It!!  The last thing is, don’t do it every day for the rest of your life.  Mix it up and do it short term.  Even when Football players do Two A Days, it’s for a short period of time and then they go back to their normal routine and above all, remember to HAVE FUN!!

Shakeology Flavors

Shakeology Flavors

Shakeology Flavors

Shakeology Flavors

When we first got involved with Beachbody and became Beachbody Coaches, we didn’t have Shakeology.  All we had was the basic workout programs.  We had Slim in 6, Turbo Jam, Yoga Booty Ballet, Hip Hop Abs, P90, P90X, etc.  We had P90X Protein Bars, P90X Results and Recovery Formula, Meal Replacement Shakes, and Multi-Vitamins.  That was about it.  We loved it all though.  There is no doubt we had the best stuff in the world with that line of products.  The thing we didn’t know was Isabelle Daikeler (wife of CEO Carl Daikeler) and Darin Olien were working behind the scenes to develop the most nutritious, comprehensive shake in the history of mankind.  Darin and Isabelle have literally traveled the world in order to bring us the best stuff on the planet and have developed Shakeology Flavors that are absolutely fantastic.  I think it was 2010 when it finally hit the market.  When it did it was a product they call a “Market Disruptor” because it blew all other products away.  They spared no expense in finding the ingredients and instead of bringing them here and harvesting them here, they grow them in their natural soil, in their natural environment so the nutrients are as pure as they can get them.  Then, they are harvested at prime and worked into a blend of proprietary ingredients that gives the body everything it needs.  And, the cool thing is the flavors are fantastic.  They have tried to work on different blends and different flavors but they settled on the first two flavors of Greenberry and Chocolate.  They have since developed other Shakeology Flavors and I have no doubt there will be others coming out in the future.  The thing I love is that Beachbody has never compromised on quality in an effort to make the shakes taste better.  There is no doubt it is great stuff but the Shakeology Flavors make it that much better.  It’s good and good for you!!

Shakeology Flavors – What they WON’T do!!

I was incredibly impressed with Beachbody a few years ago at Summit.  We had heard a rumor they were coming out with Vanilla Shakeology.  That would have been an impressive addition to our arsenal of Shakeology Flavors.  They had one of the Corporate Executives come out in the Shakeology suit and they had a bag of Vanilla Shakeology on the table.  Everybody went NUTS!!  Carl Daikeler said that during the taste testing, the panel said it tasted like a milkshake and was the vanillaiest vanilla you could imagine.  It was incredible.  This would have been one of the best Shakeology Flavors!!  But then, they found out a dirty little industry secret.  The foods in Shakeology are so potent and some of them are even bitter and in order to mask the “health food” flavor, it takes a pretty potent masking flavor.  Vanilla is a very subtle flavor and although it is great on it’s own, it does not do well masking the flavors of other foods.  So, the dirty little secret is they allow chemical and non-natural flavorings in Vanilla products.  These chemicals are very similar to film developing fluid.  So, you can call it “All Natural” and it is loaded with chemicals.  So, Beachbody decided to pull the Shakeology Flavors that had chemicals in them and not do them ever.  This included the Vanilla Shakeology flavor.  Then, we were very sad, but we were at the same time impressed that Beachbody, although it could have made a ton of money producing Vanilla Shakeology, stuck to it’s roots and said no to something that was not all natural and could potentially be harmful.  I’m very proud to be involved with a company with that type of integrity.

Shakology Flavors – What they WILL do!

We currently have 4 Shakeology Flavors.  We have Chocolate, Greenberry, Vegan Chocolate and Vegan Tropical Strawberry.  The first two have whey protein and blend up smoother than the vegan formulas.  The vegan formulas have pea protein and have no animal products at all.  They can be used while doing The Ultimate Reset also.  The regular Chocolate as well as the Vegan Chocolate when mixed right using a blender and about 20 ounces of ice along with some almond milk and sometimes a scoop of all natural peanut butter tastes like a Dairy Queen Blizzard.  It’s by far my favorite.  The Greenberry is the flavor we mix with orange juice and ice, again about 20 ounces of ice.  It has a nice crisp clean flavor that isn’t at all like Chocolate.  It has a fruity taste and when mixed right tastes like summertime.  The Vegan Tropical Strawberry we mix with frozen fruits like blueberries, strawberries, etc. along with orange juice or water.  They all have their own characteristics and everyone has their personal favorite.  For me, my favorite of the Shakeology Flavors is the regular Chocolate.  Melanie likes Vegan Chocolate and Vegan Tropical Strawberry.  They are all great but the one you pick depends on your taste preference obviously.  And, you have to remember, these are not weight loss or meal replacement shakes, although they will do that.  These are primarily HEALTH shakes and gives your body what wants and needs.  The fact that they taste great and the Shakeology Flavors are great is a plus.  So, Contact Me about our 10 Day Shake and Shed program or just go to products and order it.  It’s more than totally worth it!!

Eat Breakfast

Eat Breakfast

Eat Breakfast

Eat Breakfast

If you look at the word BREAKFAST,  it is really simple.  The first part of the word is BREAK and the second part of the word is FAST.  If you are getting enough sleep, then you are sleeping for 7 to 8 hours, especially if you are working out.  You need good uninterrupted sleep in order for your body to heal and to function at it’s highest level.  Therefore, if you didn’t eat for an hour or more prior to going to bed and then you sleep for 7 to 8 hours, your body has literally been FASTING for that amount of time.  Can you imagine going to work or school or going through your entire day without eating?  Most people are starving by the time lunch rolls around and they plan their work day around lunch.  At my old Engineering firm, we would literally start talking about where we were going to lunch sometimes before 10 AM and most of us ate breakfast.

So, when you wake up, it is the equivalent of going from at least 8 to 5 and not eating a thing, not even drinking water.  So, your body has literally been in fast mode and when you wake up, your metabolism wants to get cranked up but it can’t because now it is in starvation mode.  Your body wants you to break the fast (breakfast).  I’ve heard people say they couldn’t eat breakfast because it made them feel nauseated.  Maybe that is true if you are eating heavy or greasy foods but something that your body is craving should not make you feel uneasy at all.  If nothing else, breakfast can be something light or fruits and is just what the Doctor ordered and I mean that quite literally.

Eat Breakfast – Cuz Your Mother Said So

I’ve told you bits and pieces about me growing up.  My Mom cooked 3 meals a day when I was growing up.  One of my FAVORITES was always breakfast.  For breakfast we typically had grits, eggs, bacon or sausage and toast every morning before school.  She would cook breakfast occasionally during the summer but ALWAYS during the school year.  Saturdays we fended for ourselves and we ate cereal with milk most of the time.  Sundays she would usually make pancakes.  I couldn’t imagine going until noon without food.  When I went to college, freshmen were basically forced to eat breakfast.  We had formation and marched to breakfast.  As an upperclassman, breakfast was optional, unless you were in charge of making sure the freshmen got there.  A lot of times I would volunteer to march the freshmen to the mess hall because I was going to eat breakfast anyway.

I RARELY missed breakfast, even in college as an upperclassman because I knew instinctively it was important.  I knew I had a much better morning and wasn’t as grouchy and actually got through the day much better if I ate breakfast.  I won’t bore you with the details but you can google it for yourself.  There have been numerous studies on children and adults who eat breafast vs. people who don’t eat breakfast.  There are even studies that show that people who eat breakfast tend to be healthier and lose weight.  The reasons are varied but if you think about it, if you don’t eat breakfast, you are starving at lunch, literally, and you tend to overeat.  Most Americans now have desk or sedentary jobs.  They definitely don’t work on the farm like I did growing up where they burn a ton of calories.  Buffets are everywhere and if the buffets aren’t hit, the fast food joints are where you get loaded up with saturated fats and sugars.  Those foods make you feel full, but they don’t give your body what you need.  With a good, healthy breakfast and then a decent snack, you won’t feel the need to overeat like mad at lunch.  Breakfast is important for those reasons as well as to help your body maintain a balance. People think if they skip breakfast, they are cutting calories and will lose weight, but it is actually self defeating because your body burns fewer calories and then stores everything once you start eating again.

Breakfast – Do Something Easy

Shakeology

Shakeology

When you think of breakfast, what do you think?  Do you think grits, eggs, bacon toast pancakes, fruit, bagel and cream cheese?  Or, do you even go the more unhealthy route than that and go for the sausage and egg biscuit at the local fast food joint while choking down a cup of coffee?  I know for me, it was usually a biscuit and coffee or stopping in at the store for grits and eggs on the way to the office.  One thing for sure though was I was going to eat breakfast.  That wasn’t even a question.

So, how do you make breakfast planning easy?  Shakeology. I know you’ve heard me say it before but it’s true.  Shakeology is the absolute best thing you can put in your body, especially for breakfast.  The science is there and the studies have been done.  Check it out at www.shakeology.com/jayfloyd  It’s there.  You can check out the ingredients.  It’s all whole foods.  It’s easy and you can knock out a whole meal with fewer calories.  So, you are doing both things at one time.  You are keeping your calories down at breakfast while fueling your body with the perfect meal.  Contact me and we can talk about our new Shake and Shed program.  You get 10 shakes to use for 10 days and then you evaluate how you feel and if you don’t think it does anything for you, forget about it.  But, after 10 days, I’m betting you feel like a new person with plenty of energy to get you through the day.  Let’s talk about Shakeology.  It’s the best thing you can do for your body.  Message me for info on the Shake and Shed program.

Respect

Respect

Respect

Respect

R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Find out what it means to me. R-E-S-P-E-C-T, Take care, TCB!  The great Aretha Franklin told us to give her a little respect.  Respect.  Such a small word with so many different meanings for so many different people.  It’s amazing when you hear people talking about it.  You hear it especially around the kids in the neighborhood schools.  We demand it of others toward us, but do we give it to other people?  When I knew I was going to start blogging a bit, this is definitely one of the topics I knew I had to talk about.  I was raised to show respect toward other people.  I was never raised to demand it back from anyone.  Now, don’t get me wrong, my parents didn’t tell me to go out and tell people, “You have to respect me”.  It was just always assumed by the generation that raised me that they were raised in the same way and that if you gave people respect, you would get respect too because people were raised the same way they were.  It doesn’t take long sitting around and listening to conversations or just observing society in general that people are not being raised the same way I was raised.  It drives me crazy driving down the road and watching the way people drive.  They demand their own way.  They drive slow in the left lane making people pass in the right lane.  They are simply either oblivious to what is happening around them or they just don’t care about other people at all.  Either way, I see it as a sign of no respect.  These are the same people that will tailgate you and blow the horn at you if you cause them to wait 2 seconds after a traffic light turns green.  They are also the ones that will turn left behind you and you stay in your lane and attempt to get over to the right after making your turn but they decide to zip around you and pass you on the right.  They just simply have no respect.  So, how did we get here and is there any way of going back?

Respect is given, not taken

Some people think Respect is something they’ve earned by being born and they demand it.  But, it is kind of a two-edged sword.  Because someone is a human being, created by God, they do deserve respect.  But respect is something that is given freely and not demanded.  If you DEMAND that I respect you, I’m not going to respect you because you are demanding it of me.  The fact that you are demanding respect probably means you don’t deserve it.  Time for a check-up from the neck-up.  But, if you respect me, my natural inclination is to give you respect back.  Something as simple as holding a door open for someone has gone away.  If I see someone behind me and I have just opened the door, I hold it open for them even if it causes me to have to wait a few seconds.  But, I have held the door open for people and then, have them walk past me and not even say thank you while I’m holding the door.  No respect at all.  Oh, and another one of my pet peeves is going through a drive-thru at a restaurant.  I am spending my money there to give the people a job.  Then, they hand me my food and I say Thank You and they say No Problem.  Well, I surely HOPE it’s no problem.  Or the other thing is they say is Have a Good One.  I’m not sure what One is, but I do want it to be Good.  How hard is it to say Thank You for eating here when you hand me my food for goodness sakes?  One of my sons works at Chick-Fil-A.  When you say thank you, they reply with “My Pleasure.”  I LOVE that!!  We’ve lost so much respect in our society for other people as well as the institutions that our Country was founded on.  When we lose respect for God and others, is there any doubt that we are also going to be losing respect for ourselves?

Respect your Body

We’ve lost respect for everything.  If we treated our cars the way we treat our bodies, they would be broken down beside the road most of the time.  Cars can’t repair themselves the way our bodies can.  If we didn’t do routine maintenance to the cars with oil changes, filter changes, tire rotations etc. as well as repairs when needed, we would end up walking everywhere we went.  Why do we think we can get away with no respect for our bodies then?  It just makes sense to me that respect should spill over into every area of our lives.  We have only been given one body.   So, why do we mistreat it so badly?  It boils down to a lack of respect and just pure laziness.  Most people don’t want to go to a gym and they don’t know what else to do.  But we have a lot of great programs that would be easy to do at home and are fun to do.  We’ve taken all of the guess work out of getting in shape.  You don’t have to be an underwear model to be in shape.  You simply have to put good stuff in your body and move.  I can help you start your fitness journey and we can get you moving in baby steps.  Respect your body.  So many good things come from that when you start doing things for yourself.

Frustration

Frustration

Frustration

Frustration

Have you ever felt Frustration?  OK,that was a stupid question, right?  Of COURSE you’ve felt frustration.  We all get frustrated.  What we get frustrated about and how we deal with it varies from person to person.  The reasons for frustration are as limitless and various as snowflakes.   For instance, have you ever gotten a product from the store and it’s fully encased in plastic.  You spend 15 minutes clawing and chewing at it and get several plastic cuts.  Then, you go get a steak knife and saw at it for a bit.  You can feel the frustration growing in you.  As a final straw, you get the industrial strength scissors (while contemplating dynamite) and finally, you get the package open, sometimes without damaging the product inside.  That is something that nearly everyone has experienced.  Frustration can also happen when you’ve followed your favorite sports team through the season and they either never win a game or get to the championship game and blow it doing something stupid.  Maybe you get frustrated with the officials when they make bad calls that potentially cost your team the game.

Frustration is an emotion that we don’t count on and don’t want.  Frustration is typically tied emotionally to something we really love or have worked hard for that doesn’t go as planned or is out of our control.  Sometimes frustration can be tied to something we CAN control and then that can be doubly frustrating but that typically doesn’t get into full blown frustration mode, because we can control it.  Things that we can’t control cause the most frustration, at least for me.  It is especially so when I’m doing something and depending on other people to do something and they either don’t come through like they said they would or just flat lie to me.  THAT is the cause of my biggest frustration.

Frustration – Where it comes from

I think frustration for me comes from trusting people.  I was raised to do something, do it right, do what I said I was going to do when I said I was going to do it.  I was also taught to not give up at the first speed bump, so, when people don’t follow through with what they say they are going to do just because it gets hard, it drives me CRAZY.  I just don’t understand how people can say one thing and do another.  I know this isn’t a new phenomenon and I always love giving people the benefit of the doubt when they say something.  I want to believe and trust them, but I do have to admit, over the years I’ve become a bit jaded and skeptical with people.  Being a landlord with investment properties has compounded frustration emotions in me.  I don’t know what to say to people like that and as a manager or a leader, I tend to do most things myself instead of empowering and trusting people.  You expect something to happen the way you want it to but when it doesn’t, it’s a source of frustration.  I know.  I’ve been there.  I got more than the T-Shirt.  Just remember, I know this will be a shocker, the world doesn’t revolve around you and people are people and will do, generally, what makes THEM happy.  If you want people to do what you want them to do, you have to, in some way, convince them it’s in their best interest.  That can be fear, reward, love, hate, whatever you use, but it has to be focused in the direction you want them to go.

Frustration – It can be beneficial!!

I am a Beachbody Coach.  I have told you how I found P90X and how it has changed my life.  I became a Coach to help people get in shape and lose weight just like I did and the fact that I get to make money doing it is just AMAZING!!  But, in order to make money, you have to find people or help people develop into the kind of people who are willing and able to help others get in shape and lose weight also.  It’s frustrating to me when people don’t see the same vision I do of how the world can change if everyone would get on board and just workout a little every day and eat not perfectly but just better.  I have had people tell me they were going to lose weight and get in shape and then, they won’t even answer me when I e-mail or text them because they fell off the wagon and quit.  Frustration sets in.  I’ve also had them get involved and tell me they were going to tear the business up as a Coach and then they disappeared.  More Frustration.  I can’t count the number of times I’ve had a fellow Coach tell me they are in frustration mode because they have people get involved and then those people do absolutely nothing with the business.  They don’t even share it with their friends and neighbors, much less with strangers.  BUT, frustration can be beneficial.  Frustration channeled in the right direction will lead to progress if you let it.  If  you aren’t doing anything, there is no frustration.  I know plenty of Beachbody Coaches who aren’t frustrated at all because they aren’t doing anything.  If you build the Beachbody coaching business, I can promise you that you will experience frustration.  The same as working out and eating right.  I know plenty of people who have absolutely no frustration with their fitness journey because, they have no journey.  They sit on the couch and eat crap all day long.

I remember hearing a story of a Farmer and his Dog.  The Dog was sitting on the porch howling.  The Farmer’s friend asked what was wrong with the Dog.  The Farmer said the Dog was sitting on a nail.  The friend asked why the Dog didn’t move.  The Farmer said when it gets painful enough he will.

When your frustration gets bad enough, one of two things will happen.  You will either quit or you will figure out how to do what you want to do better with the right people.  The winners figure it out and the losers quit every time.  Don’t be a loser.  Embrace the frustration as you doing something others can’t or won’t and figure it out.  Get a mentor and do what they do.  I’m not the brightest bulb on the tree and I realize that, but I am willing to work.  They say find someone who has done what you want to do and then duplicate it and outwork them.  That is all I’ve done and it has paid off like crazy.  Frustration can be beneficial, but you have to embrace it.  Life is full of frustration.  Get ready for it and MASTER it, or frustration will crush you like a bug.

Meals and Snacks

Meals and Snacks

Meals and Snacks

Meals and Snacks

When you hear people talk about Meals and Snacks, they approach it as if it is something totally brand new but Meals and Snacks was something I grew up with.  It wasn’t necessarily traditional meals and snacks like you hear of now in fitness circles but it was just that.  It was most prevalent for me during the summer when I was working on the farm or around the house in our garden or in the yard.  A traditional day in the tobacco field would be something like this.  We would wake up and grab something quick.  Typically a leftover biscuit from the night before with a little Cane Patch Syrup in a hole we punched in it with our thumb or just something quick.  Then, we’d unload a barn of tobacco and put it in sheets to be taken to the pack house until we took it to market.  That was before daylight.  Then, we’d eat a good breakfast of something like grits and scrambled eggs with bacon or sausage and toast.  Then, we’d start working and work for 2 or 3 hours.  The mid-morning snack was usually a pepsi or mountain dew and a pack of crackers.  Dinner (Lunch) was something hearty with chicken, rice, gravy biscuits, butterbeans, etc.   Sometimes we’d take a quick nap after eating.  Mid-morning snack was another pepsi and pack of crackers and for Supper we’d have another hearty meal with a dessert usually.  Now mind you, we were burning a TON of calories a day in the field so eating like that wasn’t a problem.  We just burned it all off, but the fact that we had a snack mid-morning and mid-afternoon was needed to keep us going and keep our bodies firing on all cylinders.  We also drank a bunch of water during the day to stay hydrated in the heat.  If someone didn’t get enough water,or eat a snack or a good meal, they would “monkey” in the field which is now known as heat exhaustion or if you’re working out, we call it “bonking”.  We just called in “monkeying”.

Meals and Snacks – Don’t Monkey

Monkey on your Back

Monkey on your Back

When someone slowed down in the field, we would call it “getting the monkey on your back”.  Usually, a snack or a pepsi/mountain dew and a pack of crackers would help.  Their bodies were just depleted of energy stores so sugars and salts worked wonders.  We had no idea about Gatorade.  I’m not even sure it had been invented, but salty crackers and a sweet soft drink or even sweet tea was awesome.  So, now you’re asking, what does this mean to me?  Well, that’s a great question.

This will especially make more sense if you’re working out.  Meals and Snacks are crucial if you’re working out, maybe even more crucial if you AREN’T working out.  Here is what most people do.  BAD breakfast full of simple carbs or no breakfast.   No snack.  Fastfood lunch.  No snack.  And then at night, they pack it in and overeat because they are starving and then they go to bed on a full stomach.  The body is in basic starvation mode all day.  It doesn’t get what it needs so even after you eat, shortly afterward you are hungry again because the body knows what it wants and it will make you overeat in order to get the nutrients it needs and there are not good nutrients in most foods.  When that happens, the body starts to shut down non essential systems.  You may not necessarily feel it right away, but you walk slower, talk slower, think slower, your metabolism slows and all of that.  You basically starve the fire all day long and then you smother it at night with a huge meal.  That is what most people do.

What you SHOULD do, is eat a good healthy breakfast with complex carbs, proteins and good fats.  Then a healthy, non-processed mid-morning snack. a decent mid day meal with protein and complex carbs again, and a good mid-afternoon snack.  Then at night, you won’t be starving and you won’t overeat at night.  As I said, if you’re working out, you really need to do this to keep your metabolism stoked so you don’t “monkey” or bonk during the workouts, but if you aren’t working out (which you should be), eating good snacks and good meals will help keep you charged up for the day and keep your metabolism stoked.

Meals and Snacks can include Shakeology and P90X Protein Bars

For me, Shakeology takes one of the meals or snacks out of the equation.  It’s relatively low calorie and has everything your body needs.  Remember when I said there are not good nutrients in food anymore?  That may be why you crave certain foods.  Your body isn’t getting what it needs, in the right proportions at the right time.  Try eating better meals and in between meal snacks, but not junkie processed foods.  Almonds, an apple or orange, some greek yogurt , and P90X Protein Bars are perfect.  Give it a try.  you have nothing to lose but weight!!

Workout Results

How long until I see Workout Results?  We live in a society that is all about instant gratification.  I want it now.  Fast food, microwaves, entertainment at the touch of a button, internet on our phone.  We see something and we get it.  We buy things on credit and run up massive debt on our credit card bills.  Be buy cars we can’t afford and houses we can’t pay the mortgage on to impress people we don’t even like.  We have pride and status and don’t want to do anything that we think will diminish our standing in the eyes of others.  A lot of people, in fact, worry about what other people think about them.  In reality, people would likely be very disturbed if they knew that people didn’t think often of them anyway.  Even when we finally break down and go to the gym, we are wondering what people are thinking about us.  That is why a lot of people don’t even want to go to the gym.  They are fearful of being judged.  I took a bunny trail right?  Well, sort of, but not really.  The thing with working out is you will not see results for awhile, so, if you are looking for Workout Results right now, it ain’t gonna happen.  It’s going to take a bit of time for you to see any real results on the scale and in your pictures.  That is why we tell people not to get on the scales every day and to be sure to take those before pictures.  It’s going to be awhile before you see any Workout Results…..that’s the bad news.

Workout Results – The Good News!!

You will have Workout Results TODAY if you workout today.  WHAT?  You just said it would be awhile.  I did not!  I said, it will be awhile before you SEE any results from working out.  BUT, if you strap on your shoes and put in one of Beachbody’s great workout Programs, you will have immediate results today.  Seriously.  This is what you get by working out today.  You get a sense of accomplishment.  You know that you did something today that most people won’t do.  You break through the blood brain barrier where the hippocampus lives in your brain.  A randomized-control study published in 2011 found that aerobic exercise could increase the size of the hippocampus in adults aged 55 to 80 and also improve spatial memory.  Your heart health improves.  Your heart becomes more efficient and can pump more blood with each stroke.  Your breathing increases and more oxygen is pumped into your capillaries and extremities.    Your body releases a cocktail of hormones during exercise including endorphins and adrenaline and gives you an overall sense of well being.  Working out burns calories and will make you look and feel younger, especially over time.  So, even though you don’t see results on the scales or in pictures today because you’ve only exercised today, or for one week, know that your body is changing and you WILL see workout results if you continue on your journey of fitness.  It is a journey after all.  When I started P90X, I told a friend of mine, I didn’t get to looking like I did overnight.  It took me 15 years to put on the weight and look like I did.  If it took me 15 years to get it off, that would only be fair.  The good news is, your body WANTS to be in shape.  Once you’ve worked out for just a few weeks, your body will start to crave working out.  You will feel like crap if you don’t workout and you will know you have to.  It’s an amazing thing that will happen when you continue on that journey.  So, don’t worry about your Workout Results.  Just do it!!

Workout Results – What happens over time

The rest is up to you.  Workout Results WILL happen over time.   I’ve told you it doesn’t matter what you weigh.  The scales are the worst indicator of overall health and well being, unless you’re obese.  Even then, you don’t need to weigh every day.  It serves no purpose.    It only gives you a snapshot of today.  What you should be more concerned with, is how you look, how you feel, how your clothes fit, what your blood pressure is, what your cholesterol is, what medications you’re on or have gotten off of, etc.  You don’t have to be an underwear model to look good and feel good about yourself.  Of course, if you eat perfectly and workout hard, you can be, but frankly, that isn’t my goal.  My goal is to be the best I can be.  But, to answer the question, finally…how long until I see workout results?  Really, it’s up to you and the program you choose to do, but there is no reason why, within 30 days, you can’t see results and the type of results will depend on your body type, your nutrition and your intensity.  But, don’t give up, it takes 21 days to create a habit and just a short time after that to start seeing some serious results.  Hang in there.  If I can do it, you can do it!!  Fantastic workout results are just around the corner for you!!
